AeroSeal Duct Sealing

When we seal your ductwork, we pressurize your ductwork with a non-toxic Aerosol sealant that finds leaks in your ductwork and seals them.  Some sealant sneaks out of the larger holes during the sealing process and finds its way into living areas.  The sealant that sneaks out of the ductwork during the sealing process resembles a white dust from sheetrock or other dusty project that can settle on flat surfaces.  We install filtered air scrubbers in areas such as basements where ductwork is more likely to leak into living spaces and we install exhaust fans throughout the house to allow sealant to blow to the outside during the sealing process.

Before We Arrive & While We Are There

Step 1:
Help us to locate all existing supply and return registers and vents that may be hidden behind or under furniture, etc. In basements, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, etc.  We need to temporarily plug all registers and vents during the sealing process while we pressurize and seal the ductwork.

Step 2:
Please move any furniture or household items to provide access to furnace/air handler duct work, and especially register and vent locations. We will need to temporarily cover smoke alarms, CO detectors, thermostats, etc. during the sealing process.

Step 3:
We will need access to all rooms in your house that have registers and vents and we will cover items with painter’s plastic that may be difficult to wipe up or vacuum after the sealing process.  Please cover all delicate or valuable items that you would prefer we not have to cover ourselves.  Please assure all valuables are secured.  Please cover any valuables (paintings, TV’s, computers, fish tanks, house plants etc. with a sheet or light covering material).

Step 4:
All pets and people should be removed from the house for the few hours we are sealing the ductwork.  All reptiles and birds MUST be removed from the house because we don’t want to seal up their little nostrils, fish can stay (we will turn off the air pump during the seal).  Cats and Dogs can be moved to garages or porches that do not have ductwork.  The sealant is non-toxic, but the sealant will try to seal nose hairs and can be uncomfortable if breathed in, like breathing in a dusty environment.  We will likely have doors and windows open during the sealing process with the furnace and AC system off during the sealing process, so it might get a little cold or hot in the house and a few bugs might get in through open doors and windows (we remove window screens during the process).

Step 5:
Cleanup:  We will remove our temporary plugs in the registers and vents, remove the air hose to the furnace, and reinstall the register and vent grates, etc.  We will remove any plastic or coverings we used to temporarily cover household items. We will ventilate the house until the unused sealant has been flushed from the ducts and living spaces. We leave the final cleanup such as dusting and putting your house back in order to you.

Step 6:
Balancing air flow to register and vents.  If you would like, as an extra service, we can balance the newly-found airflow (goodbye leakage) to registers and vents throughout your house using the NCI (National Comfort Institute) residential balancing procedure based on available room air requirements and furnace blower CFM capacity.

AeroBarrier Whole House Envelope Air Sealing

Bye bye lady bugs.  If air can’t get out of your house, bugs can’t get in either.  Bugs use the same path into your house as air uses to get out.

The AeroBarrier Whole Home Air Sealing process is much like the AeroSeal Duct Sealing process and home sealing is often done just after duct sealing.  Whole house air sealing is invasive at best for existing houses with people living in them.  We strongly recommend we seal your whole house or apartment as part of a remodeling or redecorating process because it is best to have the house empty of all personal items and furniture. During this process, we are intentionally filling the air in your living area with sealant, and we are pushing the sealant to the outdoors by pressurizing the entire house using a blower door power vent system.  Sealant has a mind of its own and even though it is easy to clean up, it gets everywhere and gets on everything while it is sealing your home.  But it’s worth the mess.

We have sealed several existing homes including some of Ron’s rental properties, and it is pretty amazing how well it works, but you have to be serious about dramatically improving your home for us to seal your existing home because it’s a wondrous process.
